Learning outcomes

1. Select appropriate methods to conduct a mathematical and statistical investigation.

2. Exhibit competency with a range of techniques to solve mathematical problems and do statistical modelling and inference.

3. Recognise the connection between mathematical models and the underlying reality that they seek to represent.

4. Develop a mathematical argument in multiple steps.

5. Understand how a mathematical concept can be represented in different ways.

6. Understand and interpret mathematical facts.

7. Work with a formalism to express mathematical and probabilistic concepts.

8.Write a coherent mathematical argument.

9. Demonstrate an understanding of key economic concepts, theories, ideas and analytical tools and the social and historical contexts of their development.

10. Demonstrate the ability to apply and use understanding of economics to solve economic problems.

11. Evaluate economic, social and business issues.

12. Use statistical software to analyse data, fit models and describe the results.

Assessment

The majority of modules will be assessed through a combination of in-person exams and coursework assignments. The form of the coursework will vary from module to module but typically would involve solving sets of problems which may or may not require the use of computer packages or computer programming. Project based modules will be assessed through written submissions and presentations.
