Learning outcomes
On completion of the year students on this programme will:- Demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate a range of economic concepts, theories, ideas and analytical tools and the social and historical contexts of their development. (PA1)- Show knowledge of the economic environment (including economic institutions, systems and phenomena) and understanding of changes in this environment. (PA2)- Indicate an appreciation of the range of areas to which economics can and cannot be applied. (PA3)- Critically evaluate economic, social and business issues. (PA4)- Demonstrate the ability to apply and use understanding of economics to solve emerging theoretical and empirical problems. (PA5)- Show evidence of being an effective communicators and self-confident, independent collaborator. (PA6)- Operate in regard to known ethical and cultural issues. (PA7)
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- the key transferable skills necessary for employment related to Economics; - the exercise of initiative and personal responsibility;- the deployment of decision making skills in complex and unpredictable situations;- the communication of information, ideas, problems and solutions in individual and group settings; and- the skills necessary to support future independent learning.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of the discipline;- work that draws on a wide variety of material;- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;- evidence of an ability to conduct independent, in depth enquiry within the discipline; and- work that is typically both evaluative and analytical.
