Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate a broad understanding of design philosophies such as sustainable design, inclusive design and affective design;
2. Demonstrate a familiarity with simple electronic circuits and manufacturing processes;
3. Demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles underpinning solid modelling software and rapid manufacturing processes;
4. Apply design methods and analytic frameworks to interpret standard situations outside the context in which they were originally studied;
5. Appreciate and employ methods of qualitative and quantitative enquiry in design, such as user testing, kansei engineering and the four pleasures, and critically evaluate the appropriateness of different methods of enquiry;
6. Effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms, such as portfolio.

Assessment

Achievement may be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and may include written examinations, in-class and online tests, problem sheets, assignments, and coursework in the form of projects, reports, presentations and posters.
