MA Postcolonial Studies

Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the major literary, critical, and conceptual materials & debates germane to the discipline of postcolonial studies.
2. Exhibit in-depth understanding of the literary and cultural specifics of selected postcolonial contexts and domains.
3. Appreciate with sophistication the ways in which the field of postcolonial studies engages with and contributes to an interdisciplinary range of worldly and scholarly debates (ie: race politics, environmentalism, psychology, decolonisation, indigenous rights, ‘world literature’, globalisation, etc.).

Skills Learning Outcomes

1. Analyse closely and critically literary, cultural, and theoretical texts at an advanced level, in a clear, concise, focused, and structured manner.
2. Generate ideas and demonstrate originality when responding critically to intellectual materials.
3. Marshal relevant research materials and resources while pursuing and delivering extended independent research.

Assessment

The programme will be assessed primarily through the production of assessed essays and the submission of an independent research project. Students may also be offered the opportunity to submit ‘unassessed’ draft work to tutors for formative feedback (in writing, in face-to-face discussions) to support their learning.
