Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the programme, you will be able to: 1. Critically evaluate current issues and concepts involved in film studies and cultural studies more broadly. 2. Evaluate the methods of film theory and history and cultural theory, select appropriate methodological tools and implement them effectively. 3. Demonstrate in-depth theoretical and historical understanding of concrete aspects of filmmaking and distribution, in particular, and the creative industries more broadly. 4. Design and conduct research in the field of film studies, including managing and implementing a substantive independent research project. 5. Develop professional relationships and collaborate effectively as part of a team in the film and creative industries and in interdisciplinary contexts. Skills Learning Outcomes1. Critical thinking: identify gaps in knowledge and seek out the information or evidence needed in order to understand an issue or address a problem. Creativity: learn independently, anticipate and respond to developments in the film and creative industries; make connections across perspectives in order to explore ideas or provide evidenced solutions. 4. Time-management, organisation and planning: designing and managing a project independently, set targets and priorities, work under pressure, and work towards a goal. 5. Communication: communicate effectively in oral and written form, listen actively and critically reflect on one’s own messages. 6. Technical: choose the most effective digital tools and evaluate their application in a range of contexts.
Assessment
Achievement for the degree of Master (taught programme) will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for this programme. The programme uses a range of assessment methods that create an assessment and feedback culture that is fair, inclusive, and authentic. They include: • evidencing an ability to conduct independent in-depth enquiry within film studies or related area; • demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area; • drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study; • evaluating and criticising received opinion; • evidencing creative abilities and appropriate technical competence; • evidencing ability to manage relationships in order to achieve goals; • making reasoned judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.
