MA Applied Theatre and Social Change

Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate an understanding of arts facilitation and its application in a community context.
2. Critically reflect on creative practice in a written and creative format with reference to wider applied theatre literature and examples of practice.
3. Comprehend and compare theoretical frameworks from different disciplines (sociology, politics) that inform applied theatre scholarship and its relation to creating social change.
4. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of Applied Theatre scholarship and practice in academic and non-academic contexts.
5. Conduct an individual research project using appropriate research methodologies on an area of applied theatre practice and its relation to enabling social change.

Skills Learning Outcomes
1. Collaborate effectively as part of a creative team in academic and community contexts to generate ideas for the purpose of problem solving.
2. Demonstrate an ethical approach to practice and research on a local, national and global scale.
3. Undertake effective decision making and management processes to respond to emerging challenges in creative and community work.
4. Demonstrate an awareness of the applied theatre sector and opportunities for employment.

Assessment

Assessment on the Applied Theatre and Social Change MA is both formative and summative with a range of assessment forms including practical assessment, presentation, reflective logbook and written essay. The varied forms of assessment are necessary to ascertain whether the varied Learning Outcomes are met which are both practical and academic. In addition to this, students enrol on the course from a range of varied academic backgrounds with varied learning styles. Assessments are structured to ensure that certain learning styles and acquisitions of practice are not discriminated against nor favoured.
