Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to: 1. Demonstrate in-depth, specialist knowledge relevant to the study of TESOL 2. Critically and creatively appraise theoretical frameworks and procedures for the study and evaluation of TESOL Studies 3. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to your own research or advanced scholarship in the area of TESOL Studies 4. Proactively formulate ideas and hypotheses and develop, implement and execute plans by which to evaluate these Skills Learning OutcomesBy the end of the course, you will be able to: 1. Reflect on your and others’ teaching and learning experiences and plan for future development 2. Take a proactive and self-reflective role in working and to develop professional relationships with others 3. Investigate an area of TESOL using appropriate research methods and skills 4. Critically appraise a classroom teaching and/or learning situation and materials and make informed decisions about approaches and practices to teaching and learning. 5. Communicate effectively in an English classroom teaching situation 6. Confidently articulate and discuss teaching ideas and activities with colleagues in a professional setting
Assessment
You’ll be assessed through a variety of methods, including written essays, oral presentations, poster presentations, materials design, portfolio and group projects. The range of assessment methods are designed to reflect skills that are vital for a teacher of English (TESOL), such as critical thinking, problem-solving, reflection, interpersonal communication, lesson design and execution, and research. In all your assessments, you’ll be required to read widely and use evidence from theoretical and empirical research literature, as well as your own experience and contextual knowledge, to develop arguments and/or critical reflection in areas of TESOL.
