Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Demonstrate in-depth, specialist knowledge and application of techniques relevant to the study of TESOL

2. Critically and creatively appraise theoretical frameworks and procedures for the study and evaluation of TESOL

3. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to your own research or advanced scholarship in the area of TESOL

4. Proactively formulate ideas and hypotheses and develop, implement and execute plans by which to evaluate these

Skills Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, you will be able to:

1. Critically consider theories, procedures and techniques of language teaching and learning in relation to your own context and investigate an area of TESOL using appropriate research methods and skills

2. Creatively and critically design and evaluate language learning materials and lessons

3. Search for, evaluate and use a variety of information sources across a variety of format, media and technologies to help strengthen the quality of academic work and independent research

4. Take a proactive and self-reflective role in working and to develop professional relationships with others

Assessment

You will be assessed through a variety of methods, including written assignments, oral presentations, poster presentations, materials design, and group projects.

The range of assessment methods are designed to reflect skills that are vital for a teacher of English (TESOL), such as critical thinking, problem-solving, argumentation, reflection, interpersonal communication, lesson design and execution, and research.

In all your assessments, you will be required to read widely and use evidence from relevant theoretical and empirical research literature, as well as your own experience and contextual knowledge, to develop arguments and/or critical reflection in areas of TESOL.

Clear guidelines and structured support will be provided for all assessments. Module tutors will also offer formative feedback to help you with your assignments.
