MA Creative Writing(Part-Time) (For students entering from September 2024 onwards)

Year 1

Learning outcomes

1. To develop a Master’s level creative writing practice through the experience of the advanced ‘creative writing workshop’, which includes submitting one’s own writing, giving and receiving feedback from peers and the tutor, and selecting from and applying that feedback in the development of one’s own writing
2. To develop a practice of ‘reading as a writer’ to identify genre conventions and innovations and key debates in creative writing
3. To demonstrate an ability to locate one’s own writing in its contexts (theme and genre), including in relation to key debates
4. To complete a significant, researched creative writing project that might be developed for publication

Skills Learning Outcomes
5. To implement appropriate formal and thematic approaches in one’s own creative writing
6. To demonstrate a reflexive approach to one’s own writing aims and process
7. To demonstrate specialist practical knowledge of writing the genres of either fiction or poetry

Assessment

These learning outcomes are assessed on all modules by creative writing portfolio and critical reflection as is standard in the practice-based discipline of Creative Writing according to NAWE (National Association of Writers in Education) and QAA benchmarks.
