Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate an increasingly applied and integrated understanding of concepts and information from a range of biological subjects, including plant and animal biology.
2. Demonstrate an awareness of a broad range of global issues in biology and how biological research can be applied to construct potential solutions.
3. Select appropriate experimental approaches to test hypotheses and implement these proficiently.
4. Apply computational and statistical approaches to interrogate and analyse data and information.
5. Apply safely and ethically a range of experimental techniques across a range of experimental contexts and a range of organisms.

Skills Learning Outcomes
1. Synthesise, and critically evaluate scientific information from diverse sources, to e.g. generate hypotheses, propose solutions and develop logical and well-reasoned arguments.
2. Use a variety of approaches to effectively communicate complex biological data or information.
3. Understand and evaluate how biology can address food insecurity, climate change and health on the global scale.

Assessment

We use a variety of assessment methods to help you develop and assess the specific learning and skills outcomes. At level 2 these include assessed practical work, involving safety competencies, intermediate practical skills, more complex data handling and statistics, together with problem-solving exercises, multiple-choice tests, group work, essays, literature reviews and oral presentations. There will be opportunities to complete practice questions and receive feedback to support learning.
