Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:  



Develop, integrate, synthesise and apply the systematic and broad understanding of relevant and state-of-the-art biological concepts to solve complex problems.

Interrogate and integrate diverse sources of scientific literature alongside other information sources, in order to design and develop methods for investigation and analysis, including in areas at the forefront of knowledge and outside their current specialist knowledge.

Plan a period of practice, including, as appropriate, evaluation of ethics, hazards, environmental effects, sustainability and appreciation of costs.

Apply research, experimental, technical competencies appropriate for the period of practice

Communicate scientific and other information, and the potential impact of a period of practice.

Transferable (key) skills

In year 4, you will make use of a wide range of academic competencies. You will be given opportunities to develop and practice competencies relating to referencing and academic integrity. You will deepen your understanding of the role of ethics in a range of contexts and refine competencies relating to academic writing, use of academic language, information searching and critical evaluation.  

You will have strong competency in professional competencies such as personal and self-management, will have opportunities to develop leadership and negotiation competencies through collaborative learning activities, and will have opportunities to reflect on your competencies for assessment. You will refine competencies of teamwork, negotiation and collaboration. 

You will make use of your digital literacies throughout the programme, with opportunities to demonstrate your adaptability and creativity in using digital tools. You will develop your online digital profiles and collaborate and communicate with others in a range of contexts, including online. 

Assessment

Achievement for the degree of Integrated Master will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will involve the achievement of the students in: 
Demonstrating an ability to conduct independent in-depth enquiry within biomedical sciences; 
Demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to complex areas in the biomedical sciences; 
Drawing on a range of perspectives within biomedical sciences; 
Evaluating and criticising received opinion; 
Make reasoned judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.
