Learning outcomes

1. Select appropriate methods to conduct a mathematical investigation.
2. Exhibit competency with a range of techniques to solve mathematical problems.
3. Recognise the connection between mathematical models and the underlying reality that they seek to represent.
4. Develop a mathematical argument in multiple steps.
5. Understand how a mathematical concept can be represented in different ways.
6. Work with a formalism to express a mathematical concept.
7. Write a coherent mathematical argument.
8. Present appropriate content orally and in writing with awareness of the audience.
9. Use mathematical software and programming languages to solve problems.
10. Describe a variety of contexts that mathematics can be used to address.
11. Understand and interpret mathematical facts.

Assessment

The majority of modules will be assessed through a combination of in-person exams and coursework assignments. The form of the coursework will vary from module to module but typically would involve solving sets of problems which may or may not require the use of computer packages or computer programming. Project based modules will be assessed through written submissions and presentations.
