Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate in depth specialist knowledge and understanding of concepts and research methodology at the forefront of selected areas of biotechnology, molecular bioscience, biomedical technology and related scientific disciplines;
2. Demonstrate an understanding of small and large molecule pharmaceutical drug discovery and development, including medical, scientific, economic and societal drivers;
3. Demonstrate in depth knowledge and understanding of business skills relevant to the biotechnology, biopharma and molecular biosciences sectors, including commercialisation, intellectual property, new venture creation, technology transfer, global entrepreneurship and society;
4. Critically evaluate current issues and research literature in the field of biotechnology, business enterprise and new venture/value creation;
5. Demonstrate an ability to interpret and analyse data and to problem-solve;
6. Demonstrate ability to communicate and defend research data and ideas in a variety of formats including oral presentations, posters and written reports;
7. Proactively formulate ideas and hypotheses and develop and implement plans to evaluate these;
8. Plan and execute an individual laboratory based project on a topic in the field of biotechnology or molecular bioscience;
9. Present the results and analysis of an individual laboratory project in a written dissertation and defend the results in a viva voce;
10. Demonstrate practical competence in techniques relevant to molecular biosciences and biotechnology;
11. Take an active and self-reflective role in learning and in developing professional relationships with others.
