Learning outcomes

On completion of this programme students will be able to:

- Critically understand the need to address social, economic and environmental issues regarding development in both the global North and South in a holistic way.
- Appreciate, analyse, evaluate and apply suitable interdisciplinary approaches to development policy, planning and practice.
- Appreciate and use key methods that are applied in interdisciplinary research and approaches that are used in development processes.
- Link knowledge and research to specific environmental and/or development issues and problems, policy instruments and management initiatives.
- Use, and critically evaluate, their experience of interdisciplinary approaches on problems related to both environment and/or development.

Transferable (key) skills

The students will have had the opportunity to acquire the following abilities as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- A practical and working understanding of the processes whereby environment, development and sustainability policies and interventions are constructed and managed.
- The skills required to critically conduct multi-disciplinary research on environment and development related topics.
- The skills necessary to undertake a higher research degree and/or for employment in a higher capacity in industry or area of professional practice.
- Critically evaluate their own performance, achievement and that of others.
- Be self-directed and an effective decision maker in complex and unpredictable situations related to environmental or development problems.
- Independent learning and the ability to work in a way which ensures continuing professional development.
