Learning outcomes
1. - demonstrate an understanding of the different approaches to pricing, cost measurement and allocation of resources in the transport sector; recognising its special problems as compared to other sectors;2. - understand the principles of welfare economics and be able to critically appraise their practical value in conducting cost benefit analysis;3. - understand the complex trade-offs involved in determining the appropriate balance of regulation, competition and government involvement / ownership in transport and public utilities more generally;4. - understand and be able to use appropriate econometric techniques for answering questions relevant to transport;5. - understand the purpose and relative merits of the main transport models and how transport economists interact with them;6. - demonstrate competence in the identification, collection, management and analysis of a range of data related to transport;7. - Work effectively in interdisciplinary teams on cases and problems relating to transport economics problems.8. - design and conduct an independent research study on a topic related to transport economics.Skills Learning OutcomesMasters (Taught) students will have had the opportunity to acquire skills in the following categories as defined in the modules specified for the programme:1. Technical skills in compulsory and optional modules and relevant to at least the following subject areas: transport appraisal, transport econometrics, and transport regulation.2. Academic Skills: reflection, Critical thinking, academic writing, referencing, academic integrity, information searching, time-management.4. Sustainability skills: systems thinking, critical thinking, effective communication.
Assessment
Each module comprises a balance of assessment of understanding of core principles, critique of practice and demonstrably applying the core principles to real-world challenges. A range of traditional (Online Time Limited Assessments, essays) and authentic assessments (e.g., reports) are used.
