MSc Transport Planning and the Environment(Part-time 24month) (For students entering from September 2024 onwards)

Year 1

Learning outcomes

1. On completion of the programme students should have shown evidence of being able to:
2. - understand the links between transport and the environment;
3. - demonstrate in-depth knowledge and the ability to apply and critique a range of core transport planning skills to different practical problems;
4. - recognise and be able to overcome the specific challenges of integrating environmental and transport related data;
5. - demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and mastery of techniques related to the design and analysis of solutions to environmentally focussed transport problems;
6. - take a proactive and self-reflective role in working and to develop professional relationships with others;
7. - critically and creatively evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in the discipline;
8. - Work effectively in interdisciplinary teams on cases and problems relating to environmental problems in transport.
9. - design and conduct an independent research study on a topic related to transport and the environment.

Skills Learning Outcomes
Masters (Taught) student will have the opportunity to acquire skills in the following categories, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
1. Technical skills in compulsory and optional modules relevant to a range of employment opportunities
2. Work ready skills: Problem-solving and analytical skills, communication, time-management, planning and organisation, technical/it skills, team working/collaboration
3. Academic skills: reflection, Critical thinking, academic writing, referencing, academic integrity, information searching, time-management.
4. Sustainability skills: systems thinking, critical thinking, effective communication.

Assessment

The learning outcomes for the programme have been designed in conjunction with the learning outcomes of the modules.
Each module comprises a balance of assessment of understanding of core principles, critique of practice and demonstrably applying the core principles to real-world challenges. A range of traditional (Online Time Limited Assessments, essays) and authentic assessments (e.g., reports) are used.
