BA Asia Pacific Studies and Japanese

Year 2

Learning outcomes

By the end of their Year Abroad in Japan, students should:
- be able to communicate fluently and appropriately with native speakers of Japanese, demonstrating a high degree of grammatical accuracy;
- have consolidated and extended knowledge and understanding of complex structures and registers of Japanese;
- be able to demonstrate sophisticated receptive and productive language skills, in a variety of contexts;
- have acquired an academic and practical knowledge of contemporary Japanese culture and society within the larger context of the Asia-Pacific region;
- be able to use language creatively to communicate information and ideas.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to develop and practise:

- oral, written and practical skills in the target language;
- organisational skills enabling students to live and study effectively in Japan;
- interpersonal skills required to operate in Japanese Society;
- report writing skills.

Assessment

Acheivement will be assessed on a pass/fail basis:

- by submission of a year abroad log;
- by successful completion of all courses taken at the Japanese University.
