Learning outcomes
On completion of the year / programme, students should have provided evidence of being able to: - demonstrate grasp of basic concepts and theories relevant to standard features of the three disciplines;- critically read complicated texts for arguments;- reconstruct arguments from complicated texts;- raise and respond to objections to arguments;- demonstrate grasp of the basic fundamentals of political systems;- critically appraise key aspects of political systems and political concepts;- access and utilize key readings within the discipline of political analysis, philosophy and economics;- evaluate both qualitative and quantitative data;- discuss classical texts in political theory and philosophy;- demonstrate grasp of appropriate mathematical and statistical concepts to the analysis of business related problems;- demonstrate grasp of spreadsheet and database programs for problem solving in economics;- demonstrate grasp of basic concepts and models in micro- and macroeconomics.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- accessing library materials; - accessing online materials; - ability to construct and defend written arguments; - ability to construct and defend orally presented arguments; - ability to evaluate competing interpretations;- ability to organize time;- ability to submit completed work to deadline;- ability to work with others in completing set goals.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- completing essay/exam work in which students will evaluate aspects of philosophical arguments;- completing essay/exam work in which students will evaluate aspects of political systems, processes and theories/concepts;- completing exam work in which students will employ methods in micro- and macroeconomics.
