Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students on this programme will:

- Demonstrate a firm foundation in key basic business economic concepts, theories, ideas and tools and the social and historical contexts of their development. (PA1)
- Show knowledge of the main elements of the business and general economic environment (including economic institutions, systems and phenomena) and the changes in this environment. (PA2)
- Indicate a sense of the areas to which business economics can be applied. (PA3)
- Discuss economic, social and business issues. (PA4)
- Demonstrate understanding and be able to apply examples of how economics has been used to solve theoretical and empirical problems. (PA5)
- Show evidence of beginning to become an independent learner. (PA6)
- Show awareness of ethical and cultural issues. (PA7)

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- personal development planning skills, including self-auditing and self-reflection, decision-making and action planning;
- basic research skills in the analysis of economic problems;
- improved essay writing skills, including essay structure, citation, bibliography and presentation of equations and empirical evidence; and
- basic IT and quantitative skills appropriate to the study of economics.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will require students to:
- demonstrate the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline;
- provide work that covers a restricted area of the discipline;
- demonstrate emerging abilities, skills and competencies.
