BA International Relations with Quantitative Research Methods (Industrial)

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- understand an International Relations-related work environment, how it functions and their contribution to it;
- understand and apply International Relations work-based learning to other areas of personal development, including academic
achievement;
- demonstrate high-level transferable skills including communication (written and oral), self motivation, initiative,
organisation and time management, objective setting, negotiating and team working, especially in an International Relations oriented environment;
- ability to decide, plan and compete in the job market, specifically but not exclusively in International Relations-related areas.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- the transferable/key/generic skills necessary for employment related to International Relations;
- the exercise of initiative and personal responsibility;
- the deployment of decision making skills in complex and unpredictable situations;
- the communication of information, ideas, problems and solutions in a variety of ways to a variety of audiences;
- the ability to undertake appropriate further training of a professional or equivalent nature.

Assessment

During their placement year, the students will prepare: an Activity Log, which should include reports on all major tasks
undertaken within the placement (with written outputs attached as appendices); and a Placement Report which will provide
an analytical and reflective account of their placement; if appropriate this may take the form of a specific research or project
output. Students will be expected to devote part of their workplace hours, as well as their hours of private study, to the
preparation of the Activity Log and Placement Report.
