Learning outcomes

On completion of Year 2 of the Pathway, in addition to the core programme outcomes, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- demonstrate a broad understanding of the use of quantitative analysis in secondary literature, and critique its application;
- use and manipulate secondary datasets in appropriate statistical software, to allow them to carry out rigorous analysis;
- apply a range of univariate and bivariate tests to primary data to draw appropriate statistical conclusions;
- construct and interpret a simple multivariate linear model;
- communicate in written and verbal form the findings of statistical analyses to a lay audience;

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the Pathway:
- quantitative analytical skills, including software skills
- understanding of the applicability of quantitative methods.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
- hand-calculation of univariate statistics;
- interpretation of bivariate statistics;
- software calculation of bivariate and multivariate linear model statistics;
- write-up of univariate, bivariate and multivariate linear model statistics;
- written interpretation of secondary analyses using multivariate linear model statistics.
