Learning outcomes

"On successful completion of the first year of the programme, students will be able to:
"
- Demonstrate a familiarity with the basic concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques of physics and mathematics as they will be developed in later years.
- Demonstrate English Language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking as an initial basis on which to develop the academic study skills relevant to studies in Engineering.
- Demonstrate independent language learning skills, more subject-specific English vocabulary and grammatical knowledge.
- Demonstrate good and sensible laboratory practice and the reporting of experiments.
- Understand the ways of working an time management expected from Leeds University; in particular as preparation for further years students will demonstrate an understanding of how formative assessments will be used and how to make effective use of private study hours whose content will be less prescribed as the programme advances.
- Appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners.

- Demonstrate qualities and transferable skills necessary for progression onto their chosen Engineering subject.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary for carrying out effective private study and research in support of the modules.

Assessment

"Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and may include written examinations, in-class and online tests, problem sheets, assignments, and coursework in the form of projects, reports, presentations and posters.
