Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being:- able to understand more complex process engineering topics in the areas of fluid flow, mass and energy balances, heat and mass transfer;- able to understand how different types of process engineering equipment operate and how such plants are controlled;- able to use advanced mathematical techniques to solve complex engineering problems;- familiar with health and safety and complex environmental issues relating to process engineering operations;- able to use IT modelling software to solve specific chemical and nuclear engineering design problems;- able to plan, research and undertake a simple research project on a chemical and nuclear engineering topic;- able to carry out a range of experiments designed to illustrate process engineering concepts, and present their findings, arguments and analysis in the form of written reports;- capable of adjusting to professional and chemical and nuclear engineering-specific boundaries.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied;- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;- decision making.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects/competencies of the discipline/profession to complex, albeit standard, situations and simple, albeit novel or atypical, instances;- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to the discipline;- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
