Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- Identify and explain key developments, traditions, theories, and debates in media and communication studies. - Understand the importance of engaging critically with media products and scholarship - Analyse media products from a range of perspectives, taking into account the diverse industries and contexts in which they are created and encountered - Conduct small research projects in teams drawing on a range of different research methodologies and demonstrating awareness of the importance of ethics- Communicate in a range of styles
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied;- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;- an ability to think critically;- a capacity to think historically and to recognise the historical context of media institutions and texts;- a capacity to develop political analyses and critiques of media institutions and texts;- a familiarity with the use of media technologies;- a capacity to organise knowledge and viewpoints in a systematic and confident fashion.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the field;- work that covers a restricted area of the field;- demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies;
