BA Fashion Design Innovation

Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate familiarity with the theories, concepts, practical competencies and techniques relevant to fashion and textile design.
2. Communicate about their work.
3. Present structured and coherent simple arguments about the role of fashion and textile design, as well as its impact on society and environment and influence on human behaviour.
4. Interpret and evaluate the underlying concepts and principles of fashion and textile design.
5. Apply basic academic research skills and evaluate qualitative and/or quantitative data.
6. Select and evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to problem solving associated with fashion and textile design.
7. Recognise the breadth of opportunity for employment in the fashion and textile industry.
8. Identify ethical issues relevant to the fashion and textile industry.
9. Demonstrate awareness of their strengths and weaknesses as learners and an understanding of strategies for effective learning.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
1. Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related fashion and textile design: the ability to write concisely and effectively; to work collaboratively as part of a team; to respond imaginatively and flexibly to a brief; to access and utilise appropriate information; to problem solve; to communicate effectively in a variety of forms and to various audiences;
2. Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility: organisational skills; self-motivation; working to a deadline; punctuality and attendance; awareness of ethics.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
1. Demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to fashion and textile design.
2. Work that covers a restricted area of fashion and textile design.
3. Demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies.
