BA Fashion Design Innovation

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
1. Demonstrate a broad understanding of theories, concepts, practical competencies and techniques relevant to fashion and textile design.
2. Present comprehensive arguments about the role of fashion and textile design, as well as its impact on society and environment and influence on human behaviour.
3. Communicate their work effectively and professionally, using written, visual and other relevant methods and forms.
4. Design simple research projects in fashion and textile design employing main methods of enquiry and evaluating their appropriateness.
5. Apply academic research skills and a range of techniques to initiate and undertake the analysis of data and information.
6. Demonstrate independence as learners.
7. Make judgements about ethical behaviour in the context of fashion and textile design.
8. Demonstrate professional attributes and skills, including problem solving, necessary for success in fashion and textile design contexts.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
1. Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to fashion and textile design: the ability to write concisely and effectively; to work collaboratively as part of a team; to respond imaginatively and flexibly to a brief; to access and utilise appropriate information; to problem solve; to communicate effectively in a variety of forms and to various audiences.
2. Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility: organisational skills; self-motivation; working to a deadline; punctuality and attendance; awareness of ethics.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
1. Demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects/competencies relevant to fashion and textile design in theoretical, practical and applied contexts.
2. Work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material.
3. Demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to fashion and textile design, including independent work and problem solving.
4. The ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
