Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:

Research Skills:
- Respond to questions set by a tutor in relation to research-led teaching
- Present a structured and coherent argument
- Demonstrate the ability to identity, summarize and challenge evidence obtained from key sources
- Demonstrate integrity in use of material and ability to make reference to sources following conventions appropriate to the discipline

Language Skills and Cultural Awareness:
- Communicate in the target language to sustain everyday conversation
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic structures of the target language.
- Demonstrate an awareness of social conventions prevalent in cultures in which the target language is spoken.
- Use appropriate receptive and productive language skills in a variety of contexts.

Subject Knowledge:
- Demonstrate sound, basic knowledge of cultures and societies in which the target language is spoken that will inform specialization at later levels.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of key aspects of the literatures and social and historical issues pertaining in the cultures in which the target language is spoken.
- Bring this knowledge to bear in responding to questions set, identifying pertinent examples in support of their responses.
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of business theories, concepts and practices
- Discuss, compare and form an opinion on opposing themes
- Evaluate and interpret a given item of business scholarship
- Communicate a sound, well-researched argument in the form of both written and oral presentations; contribute to class discussions
- Understand business challenges and propose workable solutions based on knowledge
- Exhibit good self-reflection skills and identify areas to work on
- Work well in teams, demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a good ability to function sensitively and productively when working with others
- Demonstrate an awareness of ethics, integrity and responsibility in undertaking business activities
- Demonstrate a good awareness of globalisation and the importance of cultural insight in business
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of employability skills and employment sectors

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied
- Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- Demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline
- Work that covers a restricted area of the discipline
- Demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies
