Learning outcomes
On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:Research Skills:- Respond to questions set by a tutor in relation to research-led teaching- Present a structured and coherent argument- Demonstrate the ability to identity, summarize and challenge evidence obtained from key sources- Demonstrate integrity in use of material and ability to make reference to sources following conventions appropriate to the disciplineLanguage Skills and Cultural Awareness:- Communicate in the target language to sustain everyday conversation- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic structures of the target language. - Demonstrate an awareness of social conventions prevalent in cultures in which the target language is spoken. - Use appropriate receptive and productive language skills in a variety of contexts. Subject Knowledge:- Demonstrate sound, basic knowledge of cultures and societies in which the target language is spoken that will inform specialization at later levels.- Demonstrate an appreciation of key aspects of the literatures and social and historical issues pertaining in the cultures in which the target language is spoken.- Bring this knowledge to bear in responding to questions set, identifying pertinent examples in support of their responses.- Demonstrate awareness of the essential concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques that are commonly used in Film Studies - Demonstrate an understanding of core terms and concepts relating to film theory and its testing - Use essential generic and subject-specific intellectual procedures (i.e. presenting a structured and coherent argument) - Demonstrate an awareness of the variety of filmmaking cultures beyond Hollywood and the West - Read for academic purposes and summarise complex ideas in relation to the study of film, with close guidance - Present a short coherent argument in an appropriate written or oral style, based on some amount of independent research, with close guidance - Demonstrate a familiarity with general and discipline-specific conventions of acknowledging and referencing source material

Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- Demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline- Work that covers a restricted area of the discipline/s- Demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies
