Learning outcomes
On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:Research Skills:- Respond to questions set by a tutor in relation to research-led teaching- Present a structured and coherent argument- Demonstrate the ability to identity, summarize and challenge evidence obtained from key sources- Demonstrate integrity in use of material and ability to make reference to sources following conventions appropriate to the disciplineLanguage Skills and Cultural Awareness:- Communicate in the target language to sustain everyday conversation- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic structures of the target language. - Demonstrate an awareness of social conventions prevalent in cultures in which the target language is spoken. - Use appropriate receptive and productive language skills in a variety of contexts. Subject Knowledge:- Demonstrate sound, basic knowledge of cultures and societies in which the target language is spoken that will inform specialization at later levels.- Demonstrate an appreciation of key aspects of the literatures and social and historical issues pertaining in the cultures in which the target language is spoken.- Bring this knowledge to bear in responding to questions set, identifying pertinent examples in support of their responses.- Demonstrate a grasp of the basic fundamentals of political systems - Demonstrate a grasp of basic concepts and theories relevant to understanding and explaining political processes - Present structured arguments which develop sustained evaluation of key debates concerning political processes - Critically appraise key aspects of political systems and political concepts - Access and utilise key readings within the discipline of political analysis and cognate disciplines, where appropriate - Generate and support one's own interpretation of political events and processes

Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- Demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline- Work that covers a restricted area of the discipline/s- Demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies
