- demonstrate a basic knowledge and understanding of many physical laws and principles, and some applications of these principles;
- identify relevant principles and laws when dealing with problems;
- manipulate numerical and other quantitative information, and apply manipulative skills to the solution of problems;
- execute and analyse the results of an experiment or investigation, evaluate the level of uncertainty in results and compare with theoretical predictions or published data;
- communicate in writing or orally the results of their work or other scientific information in a variety of styles or for different audiences;
- work autonomously within a structured environment;
- working in a team for the good of the group;
- make effective use of physics skills and knowledge to applications in Astrophysics.

- evidencing an ability to conduct independent in-depth enquiry within the discipline;
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area;
- drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study;
