Learning outcomes
On completion of level 0 students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of :-Basic concepts, principles and methodological approaches associated with study of arts and humanities disciplines;-The different ways in which academic concepts and theory are generated, applied and critically examined in a range of arts and humanities disciplines; -Examples of ethical issues examined from arts and humanities perspectives; -Examples of global and cultural issues examined from arts and humanities perspectives; -How to use basic generic and subject-specific intellectual qualities to -Communicate the results of their work,-Present a structured and coherent simple argument-Interpret and evaluate some basic concepts and principles associated with arts and humanities disciplines,-Their strengths and weaknesses as learners
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:-ability to analyse and critically evaluate basic issues in the subjects covered during the foundation year; -academic skills required for basic enquiry along with the ability to communicate information, understanding, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;-ability to make effective and critical use of electronic resources for their learning;-ability to plan for their own personal and professional development .
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:-opportunity to demonstrate understanding of relevant concepts and theoretical perspectives in the disciplines covered on the course;-use of a range of formats for assessed work that develop skills of effective communication for an academic setting;-encouragement to explore new ideas and to test and evaluate received opinion.
