Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- understand and demonstrate coherent and detailed subject knowledge and professional competencies some of which will be informed by recent research/scholarship in the discipline of theatre and performance;
- describe, interpret and evaluate performance texts, techniques, processes and events and to engage creatively and critically with a range of critical and theoretical perspectives pertinent to the fields of theatre, performance and the cultural industries;
- appreciate the uncertainty, ambiguity and limitations of knowledge in the discipline of theatre and performance;
- initiate and carry out an extended research-based project that demonstrates knowledge of, and critical engagement with, appropriate theories and methodologies;
- work autonomously both independently and in groups;
- engage creatively and critically with the possibilities for performance;
- conform to professional boundaries and norms where applicable.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
qualities and transferable skills necessary and related to working in the field of theatre and performance - the ability to write in concise and accurate English; to work collaboratively as part of a team; to respond imaginatively and flexibly to a creative brief; to access and utilise appropriate information; to problem solve; to communicate effectively in a variety of forms and to various audiences; to work independently and in groups; to collaborate effectively in pursuing goals with others;
skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility – organisational skills; self-motivation; working to a deadline; punctuality and attendance; awareness of health and safety procedures; awareness of ethics.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of the discipline of theatre and performance;
work that draws on a wide variety of material;
the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
evidence of an ability to conduct independent, in depth enquiry within the discipline of theatre and performance;
work that is typically both evaluative and creative.
