Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- demonstrate a thorough understanding of the body of knowledge for the programme of study taking into account the logical progression of the subject and prerequisite knowledge;- apply a range of concepts and principles in loosely-defined contexts, showing effective judgement in the selection and application of tools and techniques;- demonstrate skill in abstracting the essentials of problems, formulating them mathematically and obtaining solutions by appropriate methods;- present arguments and conclusions effectively and accurately;- demonstrate by the writing of a project appropriate transferable skills and the ability to work with relatively little guidance or support;- be aware of current research activity;- for those spending the year abroad in a non-English speaking country, develop an understanding of a foreign language and an ability to use it in an academic setting;- demonstrate an understanding of the culture of a foreign country and an appreciation of the differences in approaches to learning and teaching.
