Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to: 


Demonstrate an understanding of the foundational concepts appropriate to the study of neuroscience.

These will include

cellular concepts;

molecular concepts;

anatomical and physiological concepts;

pharmacological concepts.



Demonstrate an understanding and integration of the foundational concepts and are how these are modified or adapt in different environments or disease.

Develop experimental, technical and research competencies relevant to the neuroscience.

Demonstrate the ability to effectively create solutions to local challenges relevant to the neuroscience.

Demonstrate the ability to collaborate in disciplinary and interdisciplinary team environments, contributing positively and flexibly to the team’s outputs.

Communicate scientific and other information to specific audiences and in relevant formats.

Explain the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion in the discipline.

Demonstrate foundation level digital competencies relevant to studying neuroscience.

Complete and reflect on workplace tasks and activities undertaken in employment in neuroscience.

Demonstrate ethical awareness and competencies.

Transferable (key) skills

In year 1, you will have opportunities to develop academic literacies such as information searching, academic language and time management. You will develop and practice competencies and behaviours relating to academic integrity and referencing through class activities and module assessments. 

You will work with others in active learning sessions, and team working activities which will enable you to develop professional competencies such as collaboration, communication and interpersonal competencies and you will have opportunities to reflect on and practice your competencies. 

You will have the opportunity to learn new ways of developing your digital literacies to support your studies and future life, working with a range of digital tools to support your work. You will develop appropriate ways of communicating and collaborating online through individual and collaborative learning activities. 

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the programme and modules specified for the year/programme and will include: 
 Demonstrating the knowledge and application of foundational core concepts, information and techniques relevant to neuroscience; 

Integrating knowledge and understanding across the discipline;
Demonstrating emerging abilities, literacies and competencies. 

It will encompass a range of both formative and summative assessment at both module and programme level.
