Objectives

To provide practical insights into various key construction processes.

Learning outcomes
1. Develop strategies and/or policies required for a construction project.
2. Produce a construction project strategy and/or policy document.
3. Critique construction project strategies and/or policies.

Skills outcomes
Develop awareness of the complexities of construction projects and engineering processes.

Written communication skills.


Syllabus

- Introduction to UK construction industry
- Environmental, quality and health & safety management
- Supply chain management
- Planning, programming and control
- Corporate social responsibility and business ethics
- Understanding the construction client

The module will highlight the multi-discipline approach required for the successful completion of construction and engineering projects and illustrate the broad range of engineering and management skills required in today's industry.

The course will be taught by professionals from a range of engineering organisations, who will aim to pass on their practical experience and professional knowledge to the students.

Private study

Students will be expected to carry out independent research in producing the assignments for the module. This will entail use of the library, internet, in addition to specific materials produced for the lectures.
