Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:- understand the concept of a computer program and its relation to algorithms;
- use pseudocode to demonstrate the functionality of simple programs;
- understand the role of compilers and interpreters;
- understand the concept of efficiency in programming and discuss efficiency in relation to security, portability, and usability;
- understand key programming concepts and terminology;
- design and implement simple programs;
- design and implement a plan for testing computer programs.

- Computer programs and algorithms; compilers and interpreters
- Efficiency, portability and usability
- Programming concepts and terminology: loops; iteration; recursion; classes; libraries; variables; parameters; input; output; expressions; statements; debugging; encapsulation; inheritance
- Testing: black box; white box.
