Objectives
On completion of this module students should be: independently motivated in their practice regimes and performance preparation; be capable of continued development through application of intelligent and efficient self-review; be able to contribute constructive review and criticism of a wide range of performances; and have furthered their experience of repertoire, both for their own instrument and others'. This module emphasises the progressive development of instrumental/vocal Technique and of performance skills through repertoire studies; the continued development of aural awareness along with specific skills such as improvisation, sight-reading and memorising as appropriate to the instrument and genre pursued; the development of ensemble performance skills; the development of critical skills, in self- and peer- assessment; the development of techniques of recording and reviewing independent work.Syllabus
Students take a course of individual instrumental or vocal lessons with a specialist teacher. In addition, all students attend a course of performance seminars, with opportunities for solo and ensemble work. Students must contribute performances to the seminars (typically 2 or 3 a semester), both of own-choice repertoire and according to set syllabi relating to their particular instrumental/vocal study (which will form the basis of examination performance requirements). Performance seminars may be interspersed by occasional masterclass/workshops, group presentations analysing recorded performance material and presentations on issues important to performers.
