Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to undertake a thorough site analysis and to design a medium-size multi-functional building for that site, demonstrating an ability to handle complex spatial, structural and building services requirements. The student should also show an ability to perform both as an individual and in a group, and to present their work in a cogent, clear and communicable manner in written, verbal and grapic form.
Syllabus
This module comprises a major building design project, which lasts the whole of the academic year. Working initially in groups, and then as individuals, students will perform a thorough site analysis, develop an outline brief to a high level of detail, and design a medium size, multi-functional building in which they will demonstrate an ability to handle complex spatial, structural and building services requirements.
Work will be presented at stages throughout the year in written, verbal, drawn and modelled form. Students will be expected to defend their work in review or "crit" sessions, and to participate fully in the learning process which these days provide.
