Syllabus

The overall aim of the module is to widen the student's perception and experience of health care which is important with the increasing globalisation of healthcare and in terms of employability. This will be achieved by exploring the health needs of communities/client groups of a foreign country and analysing how these needs are met through legislation, policy and service organisation and delivery during a twelve week placement in the chosen country. This constitutes experience not normally available in the UK. The student will then be able to draw comparisons between the UK and their chosen country as well as identify innovations in practice which could be usefully adopted here.

Additionally the international placement will provide the student with an opportunity to develop personal and professional skills required for independent study which are essential for healthcare professionals. The student will also have an opportunity for peer learning.

This module complies with the Euramus/Socrates schemes. The practice undertaken aboard will constitute part of the student's assessed practice requirements, as dictated by their specific programmes, via the co-requisite modules, and the regulations re pass/fail of practice placements will apply, as indicated within the co-requisite module.
