Objectives
Module objectives are, students should be able to:* Demonstrate how to negotiate and plan a work based project in one specialist area of Dental Technology, incorporating a written and practical element.
* Undertake a project in one of the specialist fields of Dental Technology
* Understand and apply the principles of basic research methods
* Be able to keep a work logbook for the practical element of the project
* Prepare a report based on the researched information, including an evaluation of the work carried out
* Be able to discuss a range of materials required in their chosen specialist field
* Explain procedures needed to assess cost implications and quality assessments for the materials used in the practical element
* Demonstrate an understanding of inquiry based learning
* Demonstrate IT and presentation skills

Syllabus
The module introduces the student to the principles of research and develops their information gathering skills.
The module will encourage the student to begin to work independently in a practical environment and produce practical work which demonstrates competency in the students chosen specialist field. It will allow the student to develop their critical analysis skills and enable them to evaluate their research outcomes.
It will allow the students to develop their assessment of research papers.
Develop critical thinking in their chosen field.
The student will develop their IT skills and enhance their presentation abilities.

There are 4 opportunities for students to discuss their project at personal tutorials. These can be in person or in the case of part timers they may wish to send in their piece of work and we will then discuss this over the telephone or by e mail.
